What do our Governors do?

Governors are volunteers who influence the decisions that shape our school. They support and challenge school leaders to help Gillingham Primary thrive.

In practice, this means making visits to talk to children and staff and observe how the school is run – each governor typically visits the school once or twice per half-term.

Governors hold a formal ‘Local Governance Committee’ meeting once per half-term.

What is the purpose of the Local Governance Committee?

The Local Governance Committee fulfils a variety of roles, including:

  • Ensuring the school is delivering on the vision and values of the school and Trust;
  • Supporting and challenging the headteacher over educational outcomes for pupils;
  • Monitoring the impact of the School Improvement Plan;
  • Helping shape the long-term financial plan for the school.

A full summary of the responsibilities of the Local Governance Committee can be found here.

The Local Governance Committee is held to account by the Pickwick Academy Trust Board and Members.
