Initial Teacher Training
If you know someone who is keen to become a teacher, we can help! Pickwick Academy Trust, in partnership with OTT SCITT, is at the forefront of fantastic school-centred teaching training across our area. We have two teacher training hubs in Wiltshire – North Wiltshire (Corsham) and South Wiltshire (Salisbury), as part of the OTT SCITT network. Our wide network of partnership schools enables us to provide placements which are local to our trainee teachers.
We offer the full range of primary and secondary teacher training courses, including both full-time and part-time routes. For primary, there are routes on Primary 3-7, Primary 5-11 and Primary SEND. For secondary, we offer a wide range of subjects. You can find out more about the different programmes here.
In addition, from 2025-26, we will be offering two new routes into teaching.
- Firstly, the Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship (PGTA). The postgraduate teaching apprenticeship is an employment-based initial teacher training route leading to qualified teacher status (QTS). This route into teaching takes 12 months and involves an End Point Assessment (EPA). Find out more here!
- Secondly, the Assessment Only route (AOR) offers experienced teachers a pathway to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) while they continue to work in schools. The AOR is aimed at individuals who do not hold QTS but can already evidence professional competencies, experience and meeting the Teachers’ Standards. Applicants could be experienced, unqualified teachers, or overseas trained teachers who cannot convert their existing teaching qualification to QTS.
If you are interesting in becoming a teacher and would like to train locally on a school-centred route, then we encourage you to find out more about our outstanding partnership, including watching the short video here.
